How to Choose the Right Concrete Mixer for Your Construction Site
Buying a concrete mixer looks simple until you are standing in front of five machines that all look the same. The wrong choice costs you twice: once when you buy it, and again every day it slows your site down. This guide explains what actually matters when choosing a concrete mixer for construction work in Rajasthan and across India.
1. Start with capacity: what does “10/7” mean?
Most site mixers in India are sold by drum capacity, such as 10/7 CFT. The first number is the dry material the drum takes in (10 cubic feet); the second is the mixed concrete it gives out per batch (about 7 cubic feet). This is the standard “one bag” mixer used on most building sites.
- Small houses, repairs, boundary walls: a half-bag mixer is often enough.
- Residential buildings and slabs: a one-bag (10/7) mixer is the most common choice.
- Large slabs, commercial and infrastructure work: go for a mixer with a hydraulic hopper or a lift, so loading does not become the bottleneck.
2. Diesel or electric?
Diesel mixers work anywhere, which is why they dominate on new sites where power is not yet connected. Electric mixers are quieter and cheaper to run where a steady three-phase supply is available. If your sites change often, diesel is usually the safer choice.
3. With lift (hopper) or without?
A concrete mixer with lift has a hopper that raises material into the drum mechanically. It saves labour, gives a more consistent mix and speeds up slab casting. A mixer without lift is cheaper and simpler, but needs more manual loading. For regular slab work, the lift model usually pays for itself in labour saved.
4. Check the build, not just the price
- Drum thickness and welding: a thin drum wears out quickly with sand and aggregate.
- Chassis and wheels: a strong chassis and good tyres matter if the mixer is towed between sites.
- Gearbox and bearings: ask what is used and how easy replacements are to find.
- Engine or motor brand: a known engine means easier servicing in your area.
5. Buy from someone who will still pick up the phone later
Spare parts and service matter more than a small price difference. Buying directly from a manufacturer means you can get parts, repairs and advice without chasing a middleman.

Frequently asked questions
Which concrete mixer is best for building construction?
For most residential buildings, a one-bag (10/7 CFT) diesel mixer with a hydraulic lift is the most practical choice, because it handles slab work quickly and does not depend on site power.
What is the difference between a mixer with lift and without lift?
A mixer with lift has a hopper that raises the material into the drum mechanically, saving labour and time. A mixer without lift is loaded by hand and is cheaper.
Is a diesel or electric concrete mixer better?
Diesel is better where power is not reliable or sites change often. Electric is cheaper to run and quieter where steady three-phase power is available.
Do you deliver concrete mixers outside Rajasthan?
Yes. Santosh Industries supplies machines across India and also exports. Share your delivery location in the quote form for details.
